There’s been a variety of buzz about Microsoft’s mysterious OrigamiProject.com as a viral marketing prelude to the announcement of a new Microsoft hardware product to be unveiled on March 2. Kevin Tofel did a little digging in the comments at Engadget and has come up with a marketing video:
The speculation runs rampant but it appears that you might not have to wait a few weeks to find out what Origami truly is. Marketing firm DigitalKitchen must have the ad campaign on this one because if you hit their site and enter, click Work and then BrandTheatre, guess what you’ll find. Not just pics of the device, but a Flash-based video showing the various uses.
Looks like the vaunted “ultramobile lifestyle PCs” are about to arrive. Aside from more details on Origami itself, the big question is whether this is actually a Microsoft hardware device like the Xbox or a specification for Microsoft OEM partners to follow like the Portable Media Center. Is Microsoft actually going into the PC system business?
