The marketing elves have been hard at work in Redmond and have come up with the official name for Microsoft’s “Centro” mid-market server bundle: Windows Essential Business Server:
Back in 2005, Bill Gates suggested that search engines would have to offer financial incentives to users and Microsoft, at least, really got into it last June with their Live Search Club promotion featuring search based games. I guess they liked the results because more Live Search goodies are on the way:
In August of this year when Microsoft settled the long running Eolas patent dispute, I speculated that this would mean the end of the two-step activation of ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer that Microsoft had implemented to avoid the Eolas patent. That speculation was borne out today when Microsoft announced that the two-step will soon be over.
A stock exchange listing statement filed by South African reseller of phone services, Blue Label Telecoms, reveals that Microsoft will acquire 12 % of the company for over $80 million:
