Microsoft today announced the general availability of Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 R2.
This product includes advancements for radio frequency identification (RFID) and electronic data interchange (EDI), and extended interoperability such as Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) Guidance and Line of Business Adapters. Together, these capabilities make it easier for companies to connect systems within their own organizations and across those of trading partners.
Microsoft also released BizTalk Server Adapter Pack Beta 2 for testing today, to help customers integrate their line of business applications. The adapters work with BizTalk Server 2006 R2, SQL Server 2005 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, and are scheduled to be available in the first half of 2008. Additional information on Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 R2 and related technologies can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/biztalk/default.mspx.
BizTalk Server 2006 R2 is also available in a new Branch Edition version that enables connecting intraorganization hub-and-spoke supply-chain processes.
This release was long expected and burnishes Microsoft’s sturdy entry in business process management middleware. The next release of BizTalk will be a major new version based on Workflow Foundation and provide BPEL 2.0 support.
