While we wait for Microsoft’s report on the 4th (fiscal) quarter this afternoon after the market close, IDC reported a relevant statistic: worldwide PC shipments were up by 12% in the 2nd (calendar) quarter of 2007 compared to 2006. The biggest jump was in Asia (up 20%) and Apple moved into a tie with Gateway as 3rd place US vendor, but presumably this still presages good news for Microsoft’s Windows Client and Office sales.
