“Halo 2,” the award-winning sequel to the instant classic “Halo: Combat Evolved” to make its PC debut on the Windows Vista platform
“Halo 2,” the game that redefined first-person combat and multiplayer action for millions of gamers worldwide, is set to explode onto PCs exclusively for Windows Vista. “Halo 2″ for Windows Vista will be developed by a dedicated Microsoft Game Studios team in partnership with Bungie Studios.
If you aren’t familiar with them, Halo (for Xbox and PC) and Halo 2 (for Xbox) were phenomenal successes, and frankly this looks like using their pull (and perhaps sacrificing some profits) to bring gamers to Vista. The Bungie Q&A offers a less than crisp explanation:
Q: Why are you releasing Halo 2 for Windows Vista only?
A: As Bungie Studios and Microsoft are dedicated to delivering a top quality translation of Halo 2 for the PC, their efforts require the use of the best available technological platform for Windows games. Windows Vista will help bring clarity to our customers and help them get more out of their personal computing experience, allowing them to focus on what matters most to them.
On the other hand, since no date is specified, Halo 2 for the PC may not ship until late enough that most gamer PCs are running Vista anyhow.
